About the Members’ Council
The Trust will consult and involve a Members’ Council comprising Public, Staff and Partner Governor Members in the planning and strategic direction of the organisation. Governor Members are accountable to members of the Trust who can stand and vote in elections to the Members’ Council. The Members’ Council is made up as follows:
• 21 elected Public Governor Members
• 7 elected Staff Governor Members
• 13 appointed Partner Governor Members

The role of Governor Members
The Trust has further identified 12 specific roles, responsibilities and rights for Governor Members and two optional responsibilities. Governor Members will:
• Use their best endeavours to ensure that the Trust remains a leading provider of mental health, learning disability and specialist national services
• Attend regular Members’ Council Meetings, the Annual Members’ Meeting and special events as appropriate
• Receive appropriate development training and support in their role as Governor Members
• Be involved in the appointment of the Chair and Non Executive Directors and the Chair’s appraisal
• Receive and comment upon the annual report and accounts
• Express a view on the forward plans of the Trust and issues of strategic significance
• Provide real time service user and carer feedback on the Trust’s services and performance by acting as a critical friend
• Act as brokers for local community engagement, feedback and support
• Support the Trust in growing a progressive membership
• Advocate the interests of members, staff and partner organisations and feedback information about the Trust to these groups
• Be involved in and establish formal advisory committees as appropriate
• Staff Governor Members advocate for their colleagues.
Optional roles
• Volunteer to mentor and be involved in specific projects e.g. leading member focus groups, helping to develop Communities of Interest
• Collectively champion Trust campaigns including the Trust’s anti-stigma campaign
