What does Foundation Trust standard mean?

A group of our Foundation Trust members during a recent feedback meeting in Nottingham.

Through Foundation Trust status, this will benefit patients, carers, the general public and our employees.

Benefits of FT Status

Improved Governance – Strong, strategic, systematic governance is a feature of NHS Foundation Trusts. This means we have good systems in place to manage our services.

Clearer Plans and Financial Flows

Having five year strategic plans which are costed, financially modelled for different scenarios and are made to stick is a liberating element of FT status.

Partnership Clarity

Partnership understanding is improved on how service models, pathways and complex packages operate. Joined up services improve.

FT status as a Unifying Objective

The route to Authorisation as an FT makes the whole organisation work together to one objective and that has the effect of making the organisation come together.

Earned Autonomy

Through FT status we will be able to determine our own future developments more easily than we can at the moment.

Membership Engagement

We will have a more systematic approach to engagement and involvement, which will make a difference to the way we provide services.

Level Playing Field

We will be able to work under the same market as the private and voluntary sector organisations that provide mental health and learning disability services.
