Art for Art's Sake Exhibition

Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the county’s leading integrated healthcare provider, is delighted to again be supporting this year’s Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks.

Art for Art’s Sake, an exciting and inspiring exhibition by people who use or have used the Trust’s mental health services, is being held as part of this year’s Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks. The unique annual awareness weeks return for the 19th year, running from Sunday 9 October – Friday 21 October 2011.

The exhibition will be launched in Café Art at the Trust’s headquarters in Mapperley on Monday 10 October, followed by a free special one day arts event on Friday 14 October in The Space at the Nottingham Contemporary; a fantastic and accessible city centre space to showcase the artistic talents of those involved.

The exhibition aims to challenge people’s perceptions of mental health, to reduce stigma and to promote a greater understanding of mental health issues. The one day event encourages everyone to get involved in the arts, and will include a range of participatory arts activities, a projection of the exhibition and live music from a service user led band.

Commenting on the exhibition and one day event Penny Coulson, Arts Coordinator at Nottinghamshire Healthcare, said: “This is the seventh year the Trust has held an exhibition to promote the artistic talents of people who use or have used our mental health services. The exhibition provides a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and view some inspiring pieces of work that help to portray a positive image of mental health.

“We are also delighted to be able to hold a one day event at The Nottingham Contemporary, providing a fantastic opportunity to get people involved in the arts, which can help to improve their mental health and wellbeing.”

Art for Art’s Sake will be officially launched on Monday 10 October. Following the launch, the exhibition will be open daily until 17 November. The one day event will be held on Friday 14 October in The Space, The Nottingham Contemporary, 11.00am – 3.00pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.

The exhibition and accompanying one day event are just two of many events taking place during this year’s Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks. For further information and a full listing of the programme of events taking place visit www.nottinghammentalhealthawarenessweeks.org
