Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the county’s leading mental health and learning disability Trust, is delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire to open its annual arts exhibition.
Artful Minds, an exciting and inspiring exhibition by people who use or have used the Trust’s mental health services, is being held as part of this year’s Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks. The unique annual awareness weeks return for the 18th year, running from Monday 4 October – Friday 15 October 2010.
The exhibition will be held at St Mary’s Church in the Lace Market, a fantastic and accessible city centre space to showcase the artistic talents of those involved. The exhibition aims to challenge people’s perceptions of mental health, to reduce stigma and to promote a greater understanding of mental health issues.
Commenting on the exhibition Professor Clair Chilvers, Chair of Nottinghamshire Healthcare, said: “This is the sixth year the Trust has held an exhibition to promote the artistic talents of people who use or have used our mental health services. The exhibition provides a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and view some inspiring pieces of work that help to portray a positive image of mental health.”
The High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire said: “I am delighted to be opening the Artful Minds exhibition, which is helping to raise awareness of mental health issues and to tackle the stigma that surrounds these. I would strongly encourage people to come and view the exceptional work that is on show in this wonderful exhibition.”
Artful Minds will be officially launched on Wednesday 6 October. Following the launch, the exhibition will be open daily until Friday 15 October, 10.00am – 3.00pm, excluding Mondays and Saturday 9 October. Admission is free and all are welcome.
The exhibition is just one of many events taking place during this year’s Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks.
