Opportunity to Chair leading NHS Trust

Candidates are being sought to take up an exceptional opportunity with one of the country’s leading providers of mental health and learning disability services.

The position of Chair of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust offers the chance for someone to really make a positive difference to the lives of those people who use the Trust’s services, their carers, friends and family.

The successful candidate will join the organisation at an exciting time as it moves toward Foundation Trust status which will enable it to have more freedom from the Government to decide on how it meets its obligations, becoming more accountable to local people, its governors and members.  The Chair will not only lead the Board of Directors (the Board) but also the Members’ Council, for which they will be responsible for guiding.

Preference will be given to applicants who live in, or have strong connections with the Nottinghamshire area. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strategic vision and a portfolio of skills including governance, financial acumen, performance management, relationship building and the ability to champion change.

Nick Plant, Vice Chair said:  “In the current climate, employment and professional development opportunities such as this are rare and we are pleased to be able to offer such an important chance to the successful candidate.  We must ensure that we recruit someone who can lead us strategically and ensure the Trust’s continued excellent progress. We wish the outgoing Chair, Professor Clair Chilvers, well in her new post and are extremely appreciative of her valued contribution.”

Professor Clair Chilvers is stepping down from the post as Chair of Nottinghamshire Healthcare to be Chair of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as part of a personal decision to move closer to friends and family in the Cheltenham area.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare provides services to the whole of Nottinghamshire as well as parts of South Yorkshire, Leicestershire and other regions within the UK. These services are provided in a variety of settings, from community psychiatric settings through to acute wards as well as low, medium and high secure provision. The Trust manages two medium secure units, Arnold Lodge in Leicester and Wathwood Hospital in Rotherham as well as the high secure Rampton Hospital near Retford.  The Trust is committed to continually improving services and the patient, service user and carer experience while reducing the stigma associated with mental ill-health and learning disability.

The role of Chair requires a time commitment of up to three and a half days a week and may include some work during the evening.  Remuneration is £23,366 pa.
