22-29 February is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and Nottinghamshire Healthcare will be launching a support group for anyone who cares for someone with an eating disorder.
The Nottingham Eating distress Alliance Team (NEAT) will provide relatives and carers with information about the cause and treatment, management and recovery of eating disorders. The group will act as a support network offering people time to talk and to share experiences.
NEAT will be held monthly on a Tuesday from 5.30-6.30 pm at the Mandala Centre, Gregory Boulevard, with the first session on 23 February. To find out more, contact 0115 960 6666.
As part of the awareness week, the Trust is also involved in a regional workshop on 25 February. This will look at the process of transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to adult eating disorder services, exploring ways in which the move could be improved and reviewing regional models of services. Lynne Addicott Eating Disorder Clinical Development Lead, CAMHS and Dr John Brewin, Regional Clinical Lead for Mental Health will both be presenting at the event which will be attended by health professionals, voluntary services and service users.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare provides a variety of services for individuals experiencing eating disorders. The Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service offers outpatient care to adults who are considered to have a severe eating disorder. The service works in partnership with CAMHS and Adult Mental Health Services within the Trust as well as with Freed Beeches, a voluntary organisation that provides a primary and secondary care eating disorder service for those who are considered to have a mild or moderate eating disorder.
The Trust also provides a clinic based service for young people up to the age of 18 in the north of the county. This service was launched in November last year. A similar service for young people in the south of Nottinghamshire will launch next month. More information about services available and how to access them visit www.nottinghamshirehealthcare.nhs.uk.
