Healthy thinking across Nottingham

A special open day is being held to celebrate the Let’s Talk – Wellbeing Service in Nottingham City, which provides vital support to people who are feeling low, anxious or stressed.

The event, which is being held at the service’s premises on Monday 16 January, will officially mark and celebrate the service. It will also provide an opportunity for people to find out more about the service, tour the premises and speak to staff who will be on hand to answer any questions.

The service, provided by Nottinghamshire Healthcare in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness for NHS Nottingham City, offers a range of talking therapies to people across Nottingham City experiencing common difficulties such as anxiety and depression.

One in four people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year. Since the service opened its doors on 1October 2011, more than 1676 referrals have been received.

Professor Mike Cooke CBE, Chief Executive at Nottinghamshire Healthcare said: “Talking therapies are recognised as an effective method of treatment for mild to moderate mental health problems. Let’s Talk – Wellbeing provides essential support which can also help to improve people’s overall health and wellbeing. The service is already working well across the wider County and in Bassetlaw and I am looking forward to seeing the continuation of this success in the City.

“The open day provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the service since it commenced last year and to raise awareness of the support that is available.”

Lee Harrison, Rethink Mental Illness East Midlands Regional Manager, said: "We're thrilled to be working in partnership with the local NHS to launch such an important service for all those in need of talking therapies in Nottingham. We're sure we can mirror the success of our similar services across the country, with people learning new skills and coping mechanisms to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression."

Anyone feeling low, anxious or stressed is encouraged to speak with their GP who can make a referral to Let’s Talk – Wellbeing. For more information visit www.letstalkwellbeing.co.uk
