Construction work will begin at the Millbrook Mental Health Unit in June 2011 to modernise and improve the care environment.
The developments to the unit, which is managed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare, will include the refurbishment of Meden Ward, an adult mental health ward, and Maun and Kingsley Wards, two mental health wards for older people. Ensuite facilities will be provided in single rooms and bays on all three wards. A new Section 136 Suite will also be built to improve current facilities providing a place of safety for vulnerable adults requiring a psychiatric assessment.
The refurbishment will provide excellent, modern and accessible facilities, with improved privacy and dignity for people needing to access inpatient mental health services. The Section 136 Suite will also mean more people requiring these services can be seen locally.
To enable the works to take place, Meden Ward will be temporarily relocated to Ward 2 at King’s Mill Hospital for an estimated 36 week period during the refurbishment programme. Kingsley Ward will be relocated to Maun Ward once completed so that the vacated ward can be refurbished.
Patients, carers and staff have all been informed of the developments and an Open Day will be held to provide an opportunity to find out more about the refurbishment, meet the project team and share views. People will also be able to view interior design options, assist in selecting furniture, and help to create artwork for the refurbished wards.
Nick Daibell, General Manager Adult Mental Health Services County, said: “We are delighted that these developments at Millbrook will soon be underway. They will result in significant improvements to the care environment and ensure that people receive their support in high quality and welcoming facilities.”
Andrea Ward, General Manager Mental Health Services for Older People, added: “We welcome these exciting developments, which will build upon the Trust’s continued commitment to dignity and compassion in the care of older people.”
