New Non-Executive Director appointed

Professor Saul Tendler has been appointed as Non-Executive Director at Nottinghamshire Healthcare. 

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Biophysical Chemistry at The University of Nottingham will commence his new role with the county’s mental health and learning disability service provider on 1 September 2010.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor for both Teaching and Learning and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Saul has wide spread experience of health-related education and training.  He originally trained as a pharmacist and has scientific expertise in research into biomolecular structures and their interactions.  This includes studies into how simple molecules assemble in diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.  He has been awarded many accolades for his research including the Pfizer Prize and GlaxoSmithKline International Achievement Award. 

Saul is currently a Director of NOTICE Ltd and BioCity Nottingham Ltd and is a member of many professional bodies and research council/professional committees.  Throughout his career he has worked mainly in academic positions in the field of pharmacy.  

Commenting on his appointment, Saul said:  “I am very much looking forward to commencing in my new role within Nottinghamshire Healthcare.  I will be particularly interested in working in the area of education and training and I hope to bring my expertise and knowledge to the benefit of the Trust whilst at the same time learning and experiencing new challenges myself.”

Saul is married with three children and lives in Beeston, Nottingham. In his spare time he enjoys sailing and walking the family dog.

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Professor Saul Tendler has declared no political activity and has held no other ministerial appointments. This appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice. Non-executive directors are remunerated with £6,096 per annum. Saul’s length of appointment as a non-executive director is for a period of four years and is due to end on 31 August 2014.
