From Promise to Provision - National High Secure Deaf Service Conference

The National High Secure Deaf Service (NHSDS), based at Rampton Hospital, is holding an important conference to address deafness and forensic mental health issues. The conference will be opened by Mike Cooke, Trust Chief Executive, on the evening of Sunday 5 October followed by a one day conference on Monday 6 October at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.

Key note speakers at the conference will include representation from Nottinghamshire Healthcare, criminal justice, forensic mental health settings, the Deaf community and mental health commissioners. A range of workshops will also be available at the conference addressing issues such as psychological therapies for deaf patients, deafness and drugs, and developing a specialist deaf service.

Annett Magore, NHSDS Manager, says: “This important and exciting conference provides a great opportunity for the various professionals involved in the field of deafness to discuss the development of care for deaf patients within a high secure setting. It is also a chance for people to share their knowledge and form better links across services to the benefit of patients.”
