Millbrook Mental Health Unit, part of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, will be hosting an open day on Tuesday 26th February 11.00 – 15.00 to invite service users, carers and staff to see how the new Lucy Wade Unit is progressing.
Attendees will have the opportunity of a sneak preview inside a fully furnished and decorated bedroom within the Lucy Wade Unit, prior to patients formally moving into the completed unit when it is opened this summer. Decisions regarding the interior of the unit have been made in consultation with user groups, involving staff, service users and carers, to make the environment appropriate for the client group.
Lunch will be provided and guests will have chance to raise any questions or issues with key staff that have been involved in the project, as well as view displays that show interior design and furnishing samples.
Work commenced on site in August 2007 and work has been progressing well, with over £2 million being invested. This includes the refurbishment of the a former acute ward into the new Lucy Wade Unit, which will be a clinical ward including a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, 11 treatment and therapy beds with en-suite facilities and a new Section 136 suite based on the ward for people needing to be assessed in a place of safety.
The redevelopments also include the transformation of the existing Derwent Ward to the new Mill Fields Centre, offering a new base for our community services staff, currently based at Sutton Health Centre and Heatherdene.
Sharon Eaton, Business Manager says: “Work has been progressing well and we are really pleased with the transformation that is taking place on site. We look forward to hosting the open day where people can come along and find out more about the developments and see inside one of the furnished bedrooms prior to final completion and formal opening for patients later this summer.”
