Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Services submit for a national recognition award

*** Eating Disorder Awareness Week – 25 February – 2 March ***

The North Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service together with FREED Beeches, a voluntary organisation supporting people with an eating disorder is highlighting their achievements by submitting an application to the National Health and Social Care Awards 2008.

The specialist service run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust offers outpatient care to adults who are considered to have a severe eating disorder and has been developed in close partnership with FREED Beeches, based in the North of the County.  FREED Beeches comprises of a board of Trustees which includes service users, carers and professionals, originally set up due to the lack of a specialist eating disorder service in the county.  They provide a voluntary service for those who are considered to have a mild or moderate eating disorder offering therapies, education and client and carer support.

This creative partnership working between the two services offers a unique and effective approach to eating disorder services, which ensures a specialist care pathway for individuals experiencing an eating disorder.  The main focus for both services is to ensure timely care delivery which is preventative in nature and offers the right treatment at the right time as appropriate for the client. This reduces the length of referral process by providing one single point of access for clients from a healthcare professional, as well as FREED Beeches offering a self referral scheme

The Health and Social Care Awards highlights and celebrates innovation and excellence in frontline health and social care and the Nottinghamshire eating disorder application has been submitted under the ‘Success in Partnership Working’ category.  The submissions will be judged by a panel of experts and the winners will be announced at a national awards ceremony in London on 2nd July 2008.

Elizabeth Reddish, Team Leader for the Eating Disorder Service says: “We are really proud of the partnership we have with FREED Beeches and wanted to profile this by submitting for a national recognition award to highlight the positive results joint working has for our clients.  We work hard together to compliment each others services ensuring that the client and their carers are kept at the heart of the work that we do.  .”

Yvonne Boughton, A Trustee from FREED Beeches says: “Submitting an award for the partnership between FREED Beeches and the NHS Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service is such a significant achievement for both services.  Over the past couple of years the new partnership has developed and flourished dramatically ensuring that our clients have a truly stepped care approach to their treatment, where most importantly a person can get the right help at the right time”
