*** Eating Disorder Awareness Week – 25 February – 2 March ***
Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service, which is part of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, hosted an event yesterday, inviting service users and carers to contribute to its developments, ensuring that we create a county eating disorder service relevant to the population that we serve.
One of the key aims of the event, held at Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham, was for stakeholders to engage in discussions around how the service can be shaped to ensure that people suffering from an eating disorder within Nottinghamshire receive the right care at the right time. This is part of the Trust’s overall vision of engaging many service users and carers in shaping how services are developed and structured in the future.
The event also welcomed Dr Navjot Bedi, the recently appointed Consultant for the Nottinghamshire Eating Disorder Service and gave stakeholders attending the event the opportunity to meet her in person.
An event that built on previous service user involvement was held in September last year titled ‘Choice agenda within the Eating Disorder Services’. This generated service users and carers perspectives on developments and choices within the service and follow up discussions took place yesterday. Carers and service users contributed towards separate workshops to encourage consultation on how the future of the service will be delivered, building on the initial work that has been done.
Elizabeth Reddish, Team Leader said: “Holding this event, offered service users and carers who have been affected by an eating disorder the opportunity to be involved in shaping the county’s service. This helps us to provide the right care at the right time, to those that need this specialised care and treatment. The event has been a great success and the information we have collated will be fundamental in developing the service we provide in the future.”
