OSCARS get bigger

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has launched its sixth annual OSCARS (Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Awards), this year with the addition of a brand new award.

‘The Fighting Stigma Award’ reflects the Trust’s commitment to fighting the stigma associated with mental health and learning disability and will recognise an individual or team who have impacted on stigma in a tangible way.  The new award joins ten other OSCAR categories and the Trust is urging all people who use mental health and learning disability services and their carers to consider nominating staff who they believe deserve special recognition.

Mike Cooke, Trust Chief Executive said:  “I would like to encourage people to give up a little of their time to nominate individuals or teams that they believe have made a real difference and deserve an OSCAR.  This is the sixth year of the OSCARS and it is great to see it growing in celebration of the outstanding work of our staff in providing high quality mental health and learning disability services.  I am particularly excited by the addition of The Fighting Stigma Award and look forward to recognising and highlighting the valuable contributions across Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.”

Nominations for the OSCARS are applicable to all clinical or non clinical members of staff working for the Trust across Nottinghamshire.  The awards cover a variety of areas such as the Unsung Hero Award for clinical and non clinical staff which recognises an individual who goes beyond their job description, or The Valuing Difference Award where work is demonstrated to show how we reflect the diversity of communities that we serve.

Closing date for nominations is Friday 5 December.  Full details of the nomination process and a copy of the nomination form can be found on the Trust internet in the October issue of the Positive newsletter.  Click here for more information.

The awards ceremony will be held at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on Thursday 26 March 2009.
