Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the county’s mental health and learning disability Trust, will officially open a new Involvement centre in Ollerton at a celebration on Monday 17 November 2008 between 1pm and 3pm.
The Rosewood Centre at Church Circle gives service users, carers, staff and members of the public a “home” to discuss and action good high quality Involvement activity across the county. Service users and carers will be able to access Trust resources and develop activities with the Trust that empower them. The opening of this second Involvement centre (its sister centre is based at the Trust’s Headquarters in Nottingham) gives people across Nottinghamshire a choice about how and where they would like to be involved.
Rosewood, which was originally part of a health centre, is unique as it’s been completely driven by service users, carers and partner organisations from around the County. The project started in August and the building has been renovated and redecorated to a standard laid out by the service user led project group. They’ve been instrumental at every stage from the refurbishment and choosing the fixtures and fittings to planning the launch event and have created a fresh and comfortable environment for all who use it.
Cleo Jarunek who is one of the carers involved said “The Rosewood Centre has been an incredible project to work on. I hope that the experiences and input of myself and others in the project group provide a warm and inviting space for everyone. On a more personal note, the project has been really beneficial for me as I’ve met many lovely people and it’s been a real joy to come to each meeting as I’m sure my new friends in the group would agree”.
Festivities on the day will include henna hand painting, drama and dance with the public opening of the centre at by Mike Cooke, Chief Executive, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust at 1pm where he’ll plant a rose bush.
