Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the leading mental health and learning disability providers in the country, today welcomed the publication of the Annual Health Check by the Healthcare Commission, receiving the rating of Excellent for ‘quality of services’ and Good for ‘use of resources’. This is an improved position from last year, when the Trust was rated as Excellent and Fair.
The Annual Health Check is the most comprehensive assessment of the performance of NHS Trusts across England. Trusts are scored on many aspects of their performance, including the quality of services they provide to patients and the public, and how well they manage their resources.
The Trust’s rating of Excellent for ‘quality of services’ marks a maintenance of last year’s top position, and is enhanced by the improved score of Good in ‘use of resources’. This services score is based on an assessment of compliance with Core Standards, covering areas such as safety, cleanliness, quality of care and patient focus, which the Trust fully met. ‘Use of resources’ measures how well the Trust manages its finances, including how it plans and reports financial performance, and ensures services offered to patients represent good value for money.
The Trust met all the core standards and achieved all existing and new national targets.
Areas of achievement include MRSA Levels, Obesity, older people being supported to live at home and drug treatments; although some areas have been identified for further work including supporting the families and carers of people using our services.
Commenting on the assessment of the Trust, the Healthcare Commission stated: “Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust provided an excellent quality of service to patients, and a good use of resources having made significant improvements compared to the previous year.”
Mike Cooke, Chief Executive of the Trust, says: “We are very pleased with the results of the Annual Health Check, highlighting some significant improvements on last year’s performance, as well as some areas that need more work. I think the maintenance of excellent for our patient services is marvellous, whilst we are constantly improving the way we use our resources. We were delighted to see an 8% increase in our patient satisfaction survey this year – a clear indicator that patients are seeing the delivery of excellence in their contact with the Trust. We will not rest on our laurels though – we will all strive for further improvement to ensure excellence is the standard we strive for in every aspect of patient care and financial management.”
“Overall the results represent a great achievement indicating some areas for improvement, which we are already working to address. Our staff deserve praise for their efforts in every area, they make the difference on a day by day basis for everyone in contact with our services. I’d like to thank them for their efforts and ask them to continue to work hard to ensure that we provide the highest quality of care to the people who use our services. “
