World Mental Health Day 10 October 2008

World Mental Health Day is an international opportunity to promote the positive aspects of mental health issues, to raise awareness and to provide hope, optimism and well being for people with mental health problems.

Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership, Nottinghamshire Healthcare, Framework, Bassetlaw MIND, Rethink and the Boundary Day Centre are celebrating World Mental Health Day at The Crossing, Newcastle Street, Worksop between 10am and 3pm.

Activities include African Drumming, Belly Dancing, Psychological makeovers, relaxation tasters, football shootout, Complimentary therapies, card making, sugar craft and many more activities. Training and employment opportunities will also be available with representatives from North Nottinghamshire College, the Family Employment initiative and Job Centre Plus.

Mike Cooke is Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire Healthcare:

“I’m looking forward to joining all of our partner organisations at what promises to be a marvellous event. Much of our work is around fighting the stigma that is associated with mental health problems. World Mental Health Day is an ideal opportunity to raise the issue with the general public, whilst supporting people who use our services and their carers as they try and get on with their lives. I may even have a go at the belly dancing!”

Crèche facilities will also be available. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Andrea Emmens or Ros Heaver on 01909 502068.
