Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the County’s mental health and learning disability service provider, is delighted with the results of its recent staff survey. The survey achieved a response rate of 67% - amongst the top 20% in the country and a 19% higher response rate then the previous year. Nationally the response rate was 55%.
Coming as it does after the Nursing Times and Health Service Journal Top 100 employer’s poll, where Nottinghamshire Healthcare was the top performing Trust in the country with over 3000 employees; it seems that staff are engaged with the Trust. Respondents commented that they felt supported, had opportunities for training and that the Trust had been like a second family.
In the national survey 847 staff were polled to find out what they think of working for Nottinghamshire Healthcare and areas that were praised include the Trust’s commitment to a work/life balance, a reduction in the work pressure felt by staff, flexible working and opportunities for development whilst feeling supported by managers.
The Trust also asked 12 local questions linked to productivity, profitability, retention and customer satisfaction which captured employee opinions that relate to top performance. These performance led questions reflect the Trust’s commitment to the Investors in People standards. The results show that staff know what is expected of them at work, that they have the tools to do their job properly and they get the chance to show their skills at work every day.
There is more work to do in areas such as recognising and rewarding good work and making sure that staff feel their views are important.
Mike Cooke is Chief Executive of the Trust:
“These outcomes show a year on year improvement in the experience of staff working within the organisation. There are always areas for improvement but overall I am confident that our staff are a happy and motivated group of people who are working hard to deliver the best services possible to the people of Nottinghamshire. Later this week we will be celebrating our staff’s achievements at the OSCARS (Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme) which gives us a chance to say thank you publically to teams and individuals who have contributed towards the positive development of our services. We will be now be looking at the areas we need to improve on and I’m looking forward to further improvements in the coming year.”
