Notts Mental Health Services in the top 20% in the country

Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the County’s mental health and learning disability service provider, has been named as one of the top Mental Health Trusts in the country, based on the views of people who use its services. The Trust’s results placed it in the top 20% of similar trusts in the country.

Overall 80% of service users rated the care they received as excellent, very good or good, 12% rated it as fair, 4% as poor and 2% as very poor. This means that overall Nottinghamshire Healthcare is in the top 20% of Trusts in the country.

The Trust achieved the highest score in the country for telling people about the side effects of medication.  In response to feedback in previous years the Trust has made a real effort to improve the information people are given about medications. As a result there have been significant improvements in this area.

The Mental Health Community Survey 2010 is part of a series of annual surveys required by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for all NHS Mental Health trusts in England.  The survey is based on a random sample of service users who were seen in the period 1st July 2009 to 30th September 2009, with 279 people completing the survey.

Mike Cooke is Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire Healthcare: “The results of this year’s survey are very encouraging; especially the 80% of our service users who feel that the service they receive is excellent, very good or good. We now need to manage any pockets where service user experience is not so consistent and make sure that quality is promoted across every service. Looking at both the CQC and Picker reports the areas that we need to focus on are Care Planning and Day to Day Living – areas that have an enormous impact on everyone in contact with our services. I’d like to thank our staff for all their hard work – in putting our service users at the heart of everything we do and I look forward to continued improvement in the coming year.”
