Nottinghamshire Healthcare, the county’s leading mental health and learning disability Trust, will be holding a number of events throughout October to raise awareness of mental health issues. This year the Trust is supporting both the local Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks and the national Time to Change campaign.
The annual Nottingham Mental Health Awareness Weeks, which return for the 17th year running from Monday 5 October – Friday 16 October 2009, aim to reduce stigma and ignorance, and to help promote a greater understanding of mental health. The weeks are coordinated by the local multi-agency Mental Health Awareness Project.
As part of the awareness weeks, the Trust will be holding ‘Presents of Mind’, an exciting and inspiring virtual exhibition by people who use or have used mental health services. The exhibition will be held at the Broadway in Nottingham and will be displayed on a number of screens throughout the venue. The exhibition aims to challenge people’s perceptions of mental health and features paintings, photographs, textiles and sculptures. ‘Presents of Mind’ will be officially launched on Monday 5 October and will run until Friday 16 October.
As part of the national Time to Change campaign, a series of events has been organised, as well as bus and radio advertising. The events include the Time to Change roadshow at the Goose Fair on 2 October and the launch of the ‘Music is what Feelings Sound Like’ CD created by service users. The Trust has also organised six Living Library events, where the ‘books’ are people who can be ‘borrowed’ to share their experience of mental health issues.
These are just a few of the events taking place throughout October. Further information and full listings of the events are available at the bottom of this page.
