Research and clinical trials are an important part of the NHS. Health research covers a range of activities. Health and social care research looks into many different issues, from illness, disease and disability to the way that health and social care services are provided by the NHS. Health professionals know a lot about health, illnesses, diseases and medicines, but there is much more that is uncertain and research provides answers to these uncertainties. Research improves treatment and patient care which can save lives and enhance the quality of lives.
