The aim of the Choice Agenda is to allow service users to express preferences, make decisions and thus have an increased amount of control over their own lives and the care they receive.
NIMHE and CSIP produced a best practice framework for providers which outlines the four areas where people want choice, they include:
-
Life choices;
-
a Choice of how to contact Mental Health Services;
-
Choices when having an assessment carried out and
-
a Choice of Care Options.
As part of the framework, emphasis is placed on the need to provide information to help inform service users, carers, families and friends about the choices available in mental health services, and to support them in making informed decisions about the care they receive.
The leaflets below have been developed to enable service users to make informed decisions about the care options available within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
