Nottinghamshire Healthcare Launches New Service in Partnership with Turning Point
Nottinghamshire Healthcare is launching a new service, working in partnership with Turning Point. Beacon Lodge will be a 12 bedded step down unit and will open to residents at the beginning of September 2016.
The service, commissioned by Nottinghamshire Healthcare and delivered by Turning Point, will run as a pilot for 12 months, providing support and intervention for people well enough to leave acute inpatient mental health care but requiring support prior to returning to independent living. The effectiveness and success of this service will be reviewed at the end of the pilot to establish the clinical effectiveness and financial implications of such a model.
Turning Point is a social enterprise, providing specialist and integrated services which focus on improving lives and communities across mental health, learning disability, substance misuse, primary care, the criminal justice system and employment.
Beacon Lodge will provide an individualised service, offering a safe, therapeutic environment in the community for people recovering from an acute phase of mental illness. The service will provide holistic, non-judgemental and respectful interventions to service users, providing a range of community based support services for those in transition to include face-to-face support for a maximum of 8 weeks in the step down unit.
The service will operate from an existing property in Gedling which is fit for purpose and has excellent access to public transport.

This type of service should offer more helpful support to prevent readmission and also be less expensive than hospital care, which is the best situation for everyone. During the 12 month pilot we will be keeping a close eye on how people get on – to demonstrate that this model really delivers. I look forward to meeting our service users in September.”
