Who are we?
The Multiple Sclerosis Nurse Specialist ensures people with Multiple Sclerosis and their families receive appropriate and timely management of their condition and ensures people with Multiple Sclerosis are supported within the community.
Who do we work with?
The Multiple Sclerosis Nurse work’s closely with primary care teams, community nursing, rehabilitation teams and intermediate care teams, GP’s, Neurological Consultants, Adult Social Care and Health and other specialist and voluntary services to ensure the highest possible quality of individualised care is provided.

How can we help?
• By providing a contact number for the person with MS to call locally for advice
• By providing a service designed to meet the needs of the person with MS and their family/carers
• By providing information and support to the person with MS and their family at time of diagnosis
• By providing information and support to the person with MS, their family and carers during progression of the disease
• The management and continuing care of people commencing disease modifying treatments
• By providing a responsive service to the person with MS their family and carers
• By providing education to people with MS, their carers, healthcare professionals and care staff and its associated difficulties
Who can make a referral?
The service operates an open referral system. This means that anyone involved in the care of someone with MS can refer to the service. This can be self referral, or health professional or family member.
A referral can be accepted as long as you can answer yes to the following:
• Are you over 16 yrs old?
• Have you been given a diagnosis of MS by a Consultant Neurologist?

You may feel a phone call is all that is necessary but it may be more appropriate to meet in your home and this can be arranged
The service is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm (not including Bank Holidays)
