Arnold Lodge

Staff at Arnold Lodge, our medium secure unit in Leicester

The East Midlands Centre for Forensic Mental Health, based at Arnold Lodge in Leicester, opened in 1983 and was one of the first purpose built Medium Secure Units to become operational in England. The Service therefore, is a very experienced provider of Medium Secure Services.

The Unit provides an In-Patient Forensic Psychiatric Service to adults (age 18 – 65) who are, or who are thought to be suffering from a mental disorder and because of their seriously disturbed or criminal offending behaviour cannot be managed by a General Psychiatric Service or Local Forensic Services with lower levels of security.

Referrals to the Service come from the Criminal Justice System, i.e.:

  • Courts
  • Prisons
  • High Security Hospitals
  • Open Mental Health Units

The Unit provides 86 beds and had 3 care streams:-

Male Mental Illness (44 beds)

Pennine, Helvellyn and Snowdon Wards.  East Midlands catchment area.

Male Personality Disorder (22 beds)

Cannock and Ridgeway.  East Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber catchment areas.

Women’s Services (20 beds)

Tamar and Coniston.  East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber catchment areas for Standard Medium Secure and East Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber, North East, East of England and West Midlands for Enhanced Medium Secure.

The Services are provided to residents of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Southern Derbyshire.
