Low Secure and Community Forensic Service

A bedroom in our low secure Darwin Ward

The Low Secure and Community Forensic Directorate provides services to individuals who pose a risk of harm to others in the context of their mental disorder.  The Service operates in the City of Nottingham and throughout the County of Nottinghamshire.

The Directorate provides both direct services to patients and assessment, liaison and consultancy services to the courts, the Probation Service, prisons and solicitors. Risk assessment and management and treatment to reduce risk are the principle strengths of the Directorate.

A close working partnership with criminal justice agencies, Adult Social Care and Health, other Trust Directorates and the voluntary sector is essential for the effective and safe delivery of these services.

Care packages within the service are delivered by a Multi-disciplinary team including:

  • Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists, Associate Specialist and Specialist Registrars in Forensic Psychiatry
  • Psychologists
  • Psychotherapists
  • Registered Nurses
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Social Workers
  • Support Workers
  • Physical Health Care Nurse Specialist
  • Researchers

Other therapists are available as required, for example:

  • Physiotherapist
  • Speech Therapist
  • Art and Sport therapists

Community services

The Directorate has two multi disciplinary community teams, one based in the City and a second in the County. They are responsible for supporting and supervising patients living in the community, many of whom have been discharged from prisons or transferred from secure hospitals.

Integrated Care Pathway enabling Through Care

The community teams also provide Through Care for Nottinghamshire community forensic service patients placed in high, medium and low secure psychiatric units outside of the Trust's service, maintaining a vital link and preparing for their eventual return home.

Low Secure Inpatient Service

Male only low secure inpatient services are provided on three wards at the Wells Road Centre, Nottingham.
