The National High Secure Healthcare Service for Women (NHSHSW) based at Rampton Hospital is the sole provider of high secure services for women in England and Wales. The NHSHSW is located in a purpose built two storey 50 bed facility within a female only patient campus with lawns, planted gardens and a dedicated Therapy and Education Resource Centre. Patient accommodation is all based on the ground floor with staff offices and facilities on a second storey.
The service aims to provide a safe, gender-sensitive, therapeutic service for women with mental health needs who cannot be managed in a less secure setting. Patients receive the appropriate assessment, care and treatment, to enable their progression along an identified care pathway. The intended outcome is for patients to eventually leave the service and move on with their lives.
