Wathwood Hospital

Wathwood Hospital is a 56 bedded medium secure unit. Located in an area of natural beauty, comprising of open countryside and mature wooded areas, it caters for those individuals who require assessment and treatment of mental health difficulties in a secure environment.The hospital offers a structured therapy programme, alongside a diverse range of sporting, leisure and educational activities.

The multi-professional team are dedicated to achieving high standards of evidence based patient care, which is reflected in the ethos and policies of the hospital and additionally by the physical building.

All members of the professional team demonstrate a strong commitment to development and innovation. Such commitment is evidenced through comprehensive training packages, a robust system for clinical supervision, ongoing audit and research as related to patient care in the strive to achieve best possible practice.

The staff and patients of Wathwood Hospital have developed strong University and Community links. These links are a result of the commitment to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness and secure care. Patients and staff have worked together to teach members of the community and students about ‘User Perspectives’.
