The Community Learning Disability Directorate provides NHS services to people with a learning disability living in the Nottingham City and the county of Nottinghamshire area. The service serves a population of approximately 1,050,000 people.
This service provision is delivered by a range of learning disability specialist professionals including:
- Registered Learning Disability Nurses
- Speech & Language Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Psychiatrists
- Psychologists
- Arts Therapists
- Administration support services
These services are offered in a variety of settings including NHS bases, community bases and private homes.
We provide specialist health services for people with learning disabilities that are focussed on those for whom mainstream provision cannot meet their needs. Services are delivered by a range of approaches, including uni-professional, multi-professional and multi-agency approaches, depending on the needs of individual service users and the service offered.

Belonging DVD
The Trust’s Learning Disability Service is breaking new ground. Like other services we aim to help people become as autonomous as possible, but we balance this by also aiming to improve each person’s sense of belonging. Not just to the mainstream but to anything that enhances their well-being. Usually belonging involves being a member of a social group, but a sense of belonging may also come from going regularly to familiar places, or regularly taking part in familiar activities.
