Training activities that we've been involved in include:
- MOD Welfare Services Development Group continue to commission training for welfare officers from various departments: eg MOD and HM Revenue and Customs.
- A series of two day workshops by Prof Atle Dyregrov, Director of the Centre for Crisis Psychology in Bergen, on ‘Trauma in children, young people and families’. Prof Dyregrov is an international expert on trauma and a consultant to many UN organisations.
- A major conference and workshops on Critical Incident Stress Management, with national and international speakers from the Centre for Trauma Research, University of Aberdeen, Centre for Crisis Psychology, Bergen, Norway, The Priory Hospital, Ticehurst, The Royal Marines and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Baltimore, US.
- A workshop facilitated by colleagues from the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims in Denmark on the challenges of working with torture survivors.
- The Centre has provided evidence on counselling training, supervision and accreditation for victims of trauma for the Social Services Inspectorate in Northern Ireland. The final Report was entitled – ‘The Trauma of the Troubles’. This Report later formed the appendix to Sir Kenneth Bloomfield’s (Victims Commissioner for Northern Ireland) landmark report on the victims of the Troubles and the services that should be provided within the statutory and voluntary sector.
- We have provided Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and trauma consultancy to a number of organisations, including various police forces, health trusts and fire and rescue services. An example of the Centre's work with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was reported in an edition of the IFRC's newsletter, 'Coping With Crisis', which can be downloaded below.
