A mother and baby take part in a steel signing event We are creating a brand new, purpose built site for children, young people and families. The development will include new inpatient and outpatient facilities for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and a new Mother and Baby Unit and outpatient facilities for Perinatal Mental Health Services.

The site will be called Hopewood and will open in spring 2018.

What does the new development include?

The new inpatient unit for children and young people who need support for their mental health needs will replace the current adolescent unit at Thorneywood, increasing the beds to 24.
There will also be a specialist eight bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on site; there is currently no PICU in the East Midlands.
Across the country there is an alarming shortage of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) beds and this new build should remove the need for so many young people to be treated out of area; something that is good for the young person and their family.

The site will also provide outpatient services for children and young people using CAMHS and will act as a child and family friendly campus, with an education centre for young people who are away from their own schools whilst at the unit.

Our perinatal services will move from their current site at the Queen’s Medical Centre, increasing beds in the Mother and Baby Unit to eight.

Where is the new site?

The development is being built on the Trust’s vacant site on Mansfield Road in Nottingham, formerly known as The Cedars Rehab Unit. The site is ideally set within green open spaces to improve the therapeutic and caring environment for the children, young people and perinatal mothers and babies needing our services.

Progress so far

Kier hand the site over to Executive Director Paul SmeetonThe site has now been officially handed over to the Trust by Kier, who carried out the construction.

This means that over the next few weeks the Trust can make the finishing touches to Hopewood before opening to patients.

Patients will start moving into the site from early June. Look out for further details of the site's official opening and photos of the fantastic new facility, which will be coming soon.
