Performance in initiating and delivering clinical research

The Government wishes to see a dramatic and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in initiating and delivering clinical research. The aim is to increase the number of patients who have the opportunity to participate in research and to enhance the nation's attractiveness as a host for research. We have been asked by the NIHR to publish all information regarding clinical trials on a quarterly basis to improve our performance and transparency within the Trust.

For performance in initiating clinical research, we are required to publish:

 •The name of the trial
 •The REC number
•The date of receipt of a Valid Research Application
•The date of the recruitment of the first patient (if available)
•If not, the reason for not meeting that benchmark

For performance in delivering clinical research, we are required to publish:

 •The name of the trial
 •The REC number
 •The target number of patients
•The date by which it has agreed to recruit the target number of patients
 •The trial status
•If the trial is finished, whether or not the agreed target number of patients were recruited
