What? Me, worry?! Module 1: An Overview of Generalised Anxiety

The aim of this module is to provide you with some general information about anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder, to describe the types of symptoms common to generalised anxiety, and to discuss what causes generalised anxiety.

What? Me, worry?! Module 2: An Overview of Worry

Worrying is a central feature of generalised anxiety disorder. The aim of this module is to provide an overview of what worrying is, what triggers worrying, what keeps it going, and most importantly, how to treat it effectively.

What? Me, worry?! Module 3: Negative Beliefs About Worrying - Worrying Is Uncontrollable

Ask yourself this question: if you believed you had control over your worrying, how much would your worrying bother you? Chances are you wouldn't feel as bad if you thought you have a choice about whether you worried, as opposed to thinking that your worry controls you.

What? Me, worry?! Module 4: Attention Training

When we worry it is like we are living our life in the future, as our mind is caught up in all sorts of catastrophic scenarios of what might happen in life to come. Our body is in the present moment, but our mind is very much elsewhere. Often we may not even be aware that our mind is doing this. Worriers will often say that because of this, they miss out on what is happening in life here and now.

What? Me, worry?! Module 5: Negative Beliefs About Worrying - Worrying Is Dangerous

Ask yourself the question: if you believed your worrying couldn't harm you or wasn't dangerous (either mentally or physically), how much would your worrying bother you? Chances are you wouldn't feel as bad if you thought your worrying was a harmless mental activity, as opposed to believing your worrying can hurt you.

What? Me, worry?! Module 6: Positive Beliefs About Worrying

Ask yourself the question: if you believed worrying is helpful, how willing would you be to give it up? Your answer is probably that you wouldn't be very willing, as you might feel like you would be losing something valuable and that giving up worrying would be very costly to you.

What? Me, worry?! Module 7: Problem-Solving

The aim of this module is to teach you some valuable strategies for being able to effectively solve problems that you encounter in your day-to-day life, and hence reduce your need to worry about these problems.

What? Me, worry?! Module 8: Helpful Thinking

In this module, you will learn more helpful ways of thinking about things that concern you. This is similar to problem solving, which is more action-focused constructive thinking for worries that we can do something about. This module will look at ways we may be able to think differently, in a more helpful way, about some of the things that bother us.

What? Me, worry?! Module 9: Accepting Uncertainty

The inability to tolerate uncertainty tends to be a unique feature of people who experience generalised anxiety and excessive worrying. This module aims to examine your need for certainty, to look at how this need keeps worrying going, to describe ways of challenging this need, and to discuss how to ultimately accept uncertainty in your life.

What? Me, worry?! Module 10: Self Management

Congratulations on making it to the end of this information package! We're glad you stayed on with us. If you haven't read all the modules, it might be good to go back to the ones you missed. However, the most important thing for you now is to keep practising the strategies you have learned through reading the modules in the What? Me Worry!?! information package.
