Training to teach Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy with NHS Talking Therapies

Background

The Nottingham Centre for Mindfulness (NCM) has been appointed by Health Education England as the Midlands and East of England Mindfulness Training Centre in a national programme to deliver mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) teacher training since March 2018.

NCM is part of a national collaboration of mindfulness centres led by Sussex University. In December 2021 the four UK sites offering this training, including Nottingham Centre for Mindfulness, Sussex University, Exeter University and Tees, Esk & Wear Valley NHS Trust became the first Health Education England / NHS England recognised accredited training sites to deliver MBCT in. NHS Talking therapies services.

CBT Therapists working within NHS Talking Therapies services across the region will be able to access free training in teaching MBCT to people with recurrent depression or less severe depression. On successful completion of the training, graduates will be able to deliver this NICE approved evidence-based therapeutic approach for people within their service.

 

About Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy training

This training is designed to increase access to Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) in NHS Talking Therapies services across England.

Teaching MBCT requires a personal interest and experience of mindfulness meditation practices. Applicants are therefore required to demonstrate a commitment to an ongoing, regular personal mindfulness practice and will ideally have participated in an MBCT group as a participant and practiced mindfulness for at least one year.

 

Who can apply

The training, which is funded by Health Education England is open to high intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) therapists with at least one year’s post-qualification experience, working in an NHS Talking therapies services.

Anyone based in the midlands or east of England locality can apply to the Nottingham Centre for Mindfulness to undertake this.
