Referral exclusions
Do not continue with this referral if any of the following apply:
ARFID (under 12 years old)
ARFID stands for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. Further explanation could be viewed: ARFID - Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
- CAMHS cannot accept referrals for ARFID in children under 12 years old.
- A GP or healthcare professional must refer to First ED: 0300 102 1685
Eating disorder concerns without medical checks.
The following checks with the GP must be completed prior to the referral:
- Blood Tests (Full Blood Count, Urea and Electrolytes, Liver Function, Bone Profile including Calcium, Phosphate and ALP, Thyroid Function, Iron, B12 and Folate, Coeliac antibodies, ESR and CRP, Vitamin D, Magnesium and Glucose)
- Height
- Weight
- BMI
- ECG
- Postural BP and HR
Do not continue until these checks have been completed or booked.
Referral for medication only
CAMHS cannot accept referrals that are only for medication. Therapy should usually be provided first. Medication is usually considered after assessment and diagnosis, and alongside therapeutic support if required.
Neurodevelopmental assessment only
CAMHS does not carry out assessments for autism, ADHD or other neurodevelopmental conditions as a single concern. Please contact your GP or the child / young person's school to discuss the correct local pathway.
Looked After or Adopted children (CLAAT)
Do not continue with this referral. Ask the allocated social worker to complete the correct CAMHS referral form. If the child is adopted and does not have a social worker, contact Adoption East Midlands on 0115 804 4500.
