Thorneywood Mount team take on sponsored walk at Carsington Water
Colleagues from 145 Thorneywood Mount, an open rehabilitation unit in Nottingham, will be taking on a sponsored walk around Carsington Water on 7 March to raise funds for patients on the ward.
The team have organised the walk to generate additional charitable funds that can be used to enhance therapeutic activity and improve the inpatient environment. The money raised will support a range of initiatives. From structured wellbeing and recovery-focused sessions to practical items that help make the unit feel more comfortable and supportive for patients.
As an open rehabilitation unit, 145 Thorneywood Mount supports individuals with complex mental health needs on their recovery journey. Access to meaningful activities and opportunities that promote physical health, social connection and independence plays a vital role in that process. The additional funds will give the team greater flexibility to tailor activities and resources to patients' needs.
This year's walk is also being held in memory of Andrew (Drew) Seale, a valued member of the team who sadly passed away earlier this year. With the support of his family, colleagues have chosen to dedicate the walk to Drew, whose commitment to equitable physical healthcare and social inclusion had a lasting impact on both patients and staff. The date of the walk, 7 March, marks Drew's birthday.
The 145 Thorneywood Mount team, said: We wanted to do something practical that would directly benefit our patients, while also recognising Drew's contribution to the team. He was passionate about making sure patients had access to opportunities that supported both their physical and mental wellbeing. This felt like a positive way to bring the team together and continue that focus.
The sponsored walk reflects the dedication of colleagues across the Trust who go above and beyond to improve patient experience. By investing in therapeutic activities and ward-based resources, the team are helping to create an environment that supports recovery in a meaningful and sustainable way.
