Help support the children and young people green space
Children and young people facing mental health challenges, including those experiencing eating disorders or perinatal mental health issues, need access to safe, healing environments. Green spaces can play a critical role in their recovery and wellbeing. That’s why we’re launching an appeal to raise £3,000 to develop two much-needed outdoor areas that will benefit both the NHS and the wider community, including schools.
We aim to create two distinct outdoor spaces for children, young people, and their families:
Rewilding Area
A natural space that supports existing biodiversity, where young people can engage with nature, learn about wildlife, and have the therapeutic experience of spending time with animals. This area offers a peaceful retreat and the chance for hands-on learning and connection to the environment.
Multi-Use Green Space
A large garden that will cater to a variety of needs. This area will include:
- Sensory Garden: A calming space designed to engage the senses, perfect for those seeking a peaceful and therapeutic environment.
- Raised Accessible Beds: These will allow children and young people of all abilities to participate in gardening activities, fostering a sense of achievement and connection.
- Multi-Use Activity Area: An outdoor space equipped for a range of activities to promote both physical and mental wellbeing.
- Quiet Reflection and Social Area: A space for solitude or social interaction, providing an essential balance between mindfulness and community.
- Patient Artwork: A collaborative project where young people can contribute artwork, giving them a sense of ownership and helping create a space that truly belongs to them.
Why This Matters?
Access to green spaces has been shown to improve both physical and mental health. For young people experiencing mental health issues, these spaces provide an outlet for creativity, relaxation, and connection.
The garden will be designed to cater to all abilities, ensuring that everyone can participate in its activities and enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature.
The rewilding area will serve as a learning environment for young people, combining education on biodiversity with the emotional benefits of being in a natural setting.
