Help support the Dementia Hub – Peer Worker Appeal

The Peer Support Dementia Hub at Highbury Hospital has been providing a lifeline since May 2022, with weekly group sessions designed to help those living with early-onset dementia. We are thrilled to announce the recent launch of a new Dementia Hub in the north at Ashfield Wellbeing Centre, funded until April 2025. This community-driven initiative offers therapeutic gardening sessions, where participants come together to grow vegetables and flowers, nurturing not just plants but also their mental and physical wellbeing.

Our goal at the Hub is to promote physical and mental health, foster social connections, and offer a space where individuals can engage in meaningful activities in the natural environment. It’s not just about gardening - it’s about growing together. While there’s no pressure to share personal experiences, many find comfort in the mutual understanding that arises, discovering a sense of belonging and support. The value of peer connection and knowing you’re not alone can make all the difference.

We now need your help to continue this vital work. The Hub requires £6,900 to fund a coordinator to run one day per week for a year, ensuring we can maintain a safe, supportive environment for all participants. Our target is £15,000, which will fund the coordinator for two days a week, enabling us to support both groups and cover the cost of essential gardening materials.

Jenny Bailey, Head of Allied Health Professionals for the Mental Health Care Group says,

“The Dementia Hub is about more than gardening—it’s about creating a space where people feel understood and supported. We’ve seen firsthand how these sessions promote mental and physical wellbeing, and how peer support makes such a positive impact. With your help, we can continue to provide this vital service for those living with dementia. Every penny raised will go directly towards ensuring that people with early-onset dementia have the support, space, and community they need to thrive.”
