About us

The Nottinghamshire County Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is a dedicated early intervention and prevention service supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people across Nottinghamshire county.

We work in partnership with schools, families, and wider services to provide timely, evidence-based support, helping young people to build resilience, manage difficulties, and thrive both in education and in their daily lives.

What We Do

Our service provides a range of mental health and wellbeing support, including:

  • Early intervention support for mild to moderate mental health needs
  • Evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches
  • Whole-school and college support, helping education settings embed positive mental health practices with the use of groups, assemblies and promotional activity.
  • Advice and consultation for school staff
  • Workshops and group interventions and activities for school staff, young people and parent and carers

Referrals into the service are received via the CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA), ensuring a consistent and coordinated entry route for children and young people who need our support.

Our Locality Teams

MHST operates across six locality teams to ensure accessible, community-based support:

  • Gedling
  • Broxtowe
  • Rushcliffe
  • Mansfield and Ashfield
  • Newark and Sherwood
  • Bassetlaw

Each locality team is led by a Locality Team Lead, who manages the locality team and oversees and develops service delivery within their area to meet the needs of local schools and communities.

Our Team Structure

Our multidisciplinary teams are made up of skilled professionals who bring a wide range of expertise:

  • CBT Therapists - delivering structured, evidence-based therapeutic interventions
  • Specialist Practitioners - providing advanced clinical support and guidance.
  • Senior Education Mental Health Practitioners (Senior EMHPs) - delivering frontline intervention but also supporting delivery of key agendas for the service, SEND, Whole School Approach, Group Activities and Involvement and Participation.
  • Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) - delivering frontline interventions and working closely with schools.
  • Support Workers - assisting with delivery of WSA interventions and engagement and promotional activities
  • Trainee EMHPs - developing future workforce capacity (in some localities)

Referrals and Clinical Oversight

Our service includes a team of dedicated Referral Coordinators, who review and assess referrals received via the Single Point of Access. They ensure that young people are directed to the most appropriate support in a timely way.

Clinical quality, support and consistency across the service is delivered by Service-Wide Allocating Supervisors, who:

  • Allocate caseloads
  • Provide supervision and clinical guidance
  • Support and mentor staff who deliver interventions

Business and administrative support

Behind the clinical teams sits a strong operational infrastructure. Our Admin Team Lead oversees administrative services across MHST, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service and supporting teams to deliver effective care.

This is supported by a dedicated team of Team Secretaries and administrative staff, who play a vital role in coordinating and managing communication, supporting clinical processes, and ensuring the efficient functioning of each locality team.

Our commitment

We are committed to:

  • Providing accessible, high-quality mental health support
  • Working collaboratively with education settings and partner agencies
  • Promoting early intervention to improve long-term outcomes
  • Supporting the wellbeing and potential of every child and young person
