Peer Mentoring creates supportive relationships between pupils through a structured mentor and mentee programme. Older pupils are recruited, trained and supported by MHST clinicians and designated school staff to become peer mentors for younger children within the school community.
The programme promotes resilience, confidence, emotional wellbeing and positive peer relationships. Mentors develop valuable leadership, communication and listening skills whilst mentees benefit from additional peer support and encouragement. Previous programmes have demonstrated positive outcomes for both mentors and mentees, including improvements in confidence, relationship-building and resilience. As this is a bespoke school-based programme, schools should discuss implementation directly with their MHST Link Worker.
