Introducing Mindfulness Skills
Mindfulness is recognised as an effective way of managing a range of mental health problems and improving wellbeing. Mindfulness skills form a fundamental part of many psychological approaches but can still be difficult to access for many service users.
To make mindfulness skills more available to people in secondary care, the Trust Mindfulness Centre is now offering a new course for all clinicians wishing to teach basic mindfulness skills to their service users.
The training consists of five days of workshops followed by a period of supervised practice provided by experienced trainers working within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The Training
You'll learn to deliver a four-session mindfulness course to your patients. Each session lasts around 45-minutes and is delivered one to one or in a group setting. The course has been designed to be delivered flexibly and can be taught as an entire 4 session programme, or individual sessions / practices can be delivered as standalone interventions depending on what best meets the needs of your patients.
The course aims to teach basic mindfulness skills so that your patients can:
- Ground themselves more easily when feeling distressed
- Be more self-aware Learn how to step back from troubling thoughts/rumination
- Bring a more self-compassionate approach to themselves
During the training you will explore the key intentions, structure and outline of the course, and how to deliver each aspect of this.
Supervision is provided as part of the training to support clinicians in delivering this training in the most effective way.
