Higher Specialist Trainee (HST) rotas
City North HST Rota
What do I cover?
General duties: On call registrar available through switchboard from 5pm until 9am on weekdays, and 24 / 7 on weekends and Bank Holidays. Core duties are to provide telephone advice and to respond to AMHP requests for MHA assessments. For this rota, you are not expected to 'act down' and provide cover for DPM / RRLP (Liaison Psychiatry) unless there are exceptional circumstances. If the Highbury F2 / GPVTS / CT doctor is absent, there is a need to ensure a resident doctor presence at Highbury Hospital. Should such circumstances arise, you are encouraged to discuss with the AMH consultant on call in the first instance, and involve on call managers where applicable. This is also the case for the Hopewood F2 / GPVTS / CT doctor, and it is suggested that discussions are had with the on call CAMHS medical team given the patient population at Hopewood.
Please note that you cover patients aged 18 and above only.
- For those under 18 the query should be re-directed to the on call CAMHS HST / consultant.
- Similarly if the patient has an intellectual disability the query should be re-directed to the on call intellectual disability HST / consultant.

- Attending for senior seclusion / segregation reviews in line with relevant policies / procedures.
- Referrals for MHA assessments on the Highbury Hospital site, including the Section 136 (Cassidy) Suite.
- Telephone advice to the PCDU and directing the resident Highbury F2 / GPVTS / CT doctor where needed.
Wells Road Centre
- Telephone advice to the resident Hopewood F2 / GPVTS / CT* doctor for patients on wards at the Wells Road Centre.
- Attending for senior seclusion / segregation reviews in line with relevant policies / procedures.
Hopewood
- Telephone advice to the resident Hopewood F2 / GPVTS / CT doctor for patients on the Margaret Oates Mother and Baby Unit.
Nottingham Custody Suite
- Referrals for MHA Assessments where the patient's GP practice falls within a City North CCG (see diagram below for guidance).

Should such circumstances arise, you are encouraged to discuss with the AMH consultant on call in the first instance and involve on call managers where applicable.

Core duties are to provide telephone advice and respond to requests for Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments. For this rota, Registrars are not expected to 'act down' and provide cover for DPM / MHLT (Liaison Psychiatry) or CAMHS Crisis unless there are exceptional circumstances*. If the Hopewood Resident doctor (F2 / GPVTS / CT) is absent, there is a need to ensure a resident doctor presence at Hopewood Hospital. Should such circumstances arise, you are encouraged to discuss with the CAMHS consultant on call in the first instance and involve on call managers where applicable.

- Referrals for MHA assessments in other venues in the community, if considered safe and appropriate, where the patient's GP practice falls within Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire County CCG, for patients under 18 years.

If you are needing accommodation during your on-call shift, due to you living too far away from site or because you are a non-car driver - please see the following guidance depending on the location of the on-call.
Nottingham
Please email dates to Medical Workforce at least 7 days in advance, the Team will be able to support you with City Hospital accommodation for the night of your on-call. This is a cost to the Trust, so please be mindful of if you no long require this to let the Team know.
Mansfield
There is accommodating available to you at 1 Alder Court (next door to the Morrisons) the key for the house can be accessed from the key safe at the front of the house. In there are two rooms for the Trust to utilise, one for the 1st on-call and the second for the HSTs.
