Medical Education

There are Medical Education offices based at both Highbury Hospital and on the Blossomwood Campus, Mansfield. On the contact list within this booklet is a list of all Postgraduate Medical Education staff, their roles and contact details.

There is a monthly Medical Education Newsletter with updates on developments within the department, please make sure you are on the circulation list for this if you have not received a copy.

It is sent out to all Trust trainees and Consultants in the Trust and can also be accessed via Connect (Accessible via Trust Network only).

Special Interest

Please find attached the Special Interest Catalogue for 2024-25. This document is updated annually, please make sure you have the most up to date version available. A copy of this will usually be shared in the Handover for SharePoint site for reference.

If a Clinical or Non-clinical area that you wish to complete a Special Interest session in is not listed within the Catalogue, please discuss this with your Clinical or Educational Supervisor and make contact with the relevant Consultant within the area that you wish to undertake a special interest within.

There is scope for Leadership Special Interest Sessions to be designed on a Bespoke basis (offering a range of experiences - including shadowing of Executive Board Members / Senior Management teams members, supporting the Investigation of a Serious Untoward Incident (SUI), Attending Trust Board / Other exec level meetings or management projects. If you are interested in this option, please contact the DME/DDME to discuss.

Research Opportunities

The Trust benefits from having a close working relationship with academic colleagues based at the Institute of Mental Health on the Jubilee Campus of the University of Nottingham.

We have colleagues from there chairing the weekly Journal Club presentations and they also contribute to the creation of an academic environment within the Trust by providing opportunities to be supervised on research projects, to join projects as an Associate PI, or to support other NIHR or CRN projects. Key contacts are Dr Sudheer Lankappa and Dr Anto Rajamani.

Medical Education Teaching Opportunities

If you are interested in progressing an interest/career in medical education, please discuss this with the DDME/DME in the first instance.

There are opportunities to get access to teaching experience by supporting Undergraduate formal teaching sessions / workshops (and getting support either from our team of Clinical Teaching Fellows or the Course Leads / Associate Clinical Sub Dean for a WPBA).

We are also keen to develop our own pool of Medical Educators as a Trust and would be pleased to have a discussion about the aspects of our existing offer you might be interested in getting supported exposure to. There will be opportunities to apply for a chance to be a Trust / HEE Fellow in Medical Education for a 12 month period from time to time.
