Can a bank worker claim travel expenses?

If you work in a role that requires you to travel during your shift, i.e. working within the community, then you can claim for any travel expenses incurred via the Trust's system Easy (Accessible via Trust network only).

How much do bank workers get paid?

The pay scales get reviewed regularly, the most up to date version is on Connect (Accessible via Trust network only).

The pay scales are in line with Agenda for Change and are relevant to the role you undertake.

How should I raise a complaint?

In the first instance the complaint should be raised in the service area and the manager will support you. If you have a clinical issue, then you should raise with the Clinical Nurse Advisors Clinical Nurse Advisors via email complaintsincidentsandconcernsbankandagency@nottshc.nhs.uk.

You can also contact the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian, Employee Relations or your union representative (should you be a member of a trade union).

What happens if I need to cancel my shift?

You need to contact either Temporary Staffing Bank Team:

  • During office hours: Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm
  • Out of hours: Monday to Friday 4pm- 8pm, and 9am - 12pm Saturday.

When the office is closed, contact the ward directly outside of these hours.

Please ensure where possible cancellations are communicated at least 24 hours before the start of the shift.

How do I keep up to date with my mandatory training?

It is a requirement for working on the bank that you remain up to date with your mandatory training.

Please note if you do not keep your training up to date, the Trust may restrict your ability to book shifts until you have completed the training.

You will be paid for the time spent completing your training and the Temporary Staffing Team are available to support you with any queries or advice.

Once you complete eLearning, please contact the Temporary Staffing team to notify them as they will need to process payment.

Can I complete my training on shift?

You will need to speak with the ward manager or a nurse in charge to see if there is capacity for this.

It cannot always be guaranteed due to the nature of the shifts and how things can change.

If you cannot complete the training during shift, you will be expected to complete the training during your own time as is expected of all colleagues within the trust.

If I am unwell at work, how will the Trust support me?

Working on the bank at Nottinghamshire Healthcare you have access to all of our wellbeing, counselling and occupational health services, further information is included within the health and wellbeing guide.

As a bank worker you will not be entitled to occupational sick pay, however you may be entitled to statutory sick pay dependant on your circumstances, you can visit Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) : Overview - GOV.UK for further guidance on this.

Will I receive annual leave?

Bank workers accrue holiday pay within their hourly rate. Because of this bank workers do not have an annual leave allowance.

The flexibility of the bank means you can take time off when required.

Can I swap my shift to work in a different area?

We understand that the flexible nature of working on the bank means you may want to change your shift. So that services are not disrupted, please ensure that you give appropriate notice.

Do I need to move to different wards/areas when asked?

Sometimes it is necessary for managers to ask bank workers to change area to meet the safe staffing requirements of our patients. As part of the bank roles, staff are expected to move to areas to support with demand on the wards.

If you have a genuine reason or an area where an issue has occurred, please contact us so we can support you.

If it's an area you lack experience with, we can arrange shadow shifts. We would strive to avoid this where absolutely possible, however it is something that would need to happen if you have the relevant skill set.

When will I get paid?

The pay date at Nottinghamshire Healthcare is the 26th of every month.

If this falls on a weekend or bank holiday you will be paid on the last working day before.

Bank workers work a month in advance before their first pay date.

How can I give feedback?

The annual staff survey is a way to give your feedback to the organisation.

We will be holding regular sessions for bank workers to check in with the team and you can also contact the team directly.

Which log in details do I use for which iPad when I am on Mental Health shifts?

You use your RiO username and password for the Blue case iPads, and your trust computer username and password for the Black case iPads to log in to complete eObservations.
