How you helped us decide on the proposals

What we've heard so far to help us decide on our proposals to changes in CAMHS and Perinatal Services...

We began talking to people in August 2014 about improving CAMHS Outpatients, the Adolescent Unit and the Mother & Baby Unit.

The Trust has a strategy titled 'One Door, Many Pathways' about Children, Young People and Family services and how the Trust could improve them. As part of this strategy the idea of making a ‘hub' of services for young people and families started to be developed.

We were keen to involve people in these decisions and plans, so before anything was decided we started meeting with people who have experiences of those services.

We contacted past inpatients from the Mother & Baby Unit and Adolescent Unit, inviting them to talk about what they thought of the service they received, and whether they thought moving was a good idea.

To talk to young people and families from CAMHS Outpatients, we went along to carer and user groups and worked with the Carers' Federation to contact people that might be interested in letting us know what they thought.

The meetings took place in a conversational style, with no subject off limits. We made sure that we listened to what people wanted to tell us of their experiences.

As of June 2015 there have been 17 meetings to talk through the proposed changes, from one-to-one conversation, up to groups of nine or ten. These conversations have lasted between one and two hours and have been documented.

All this documentation was sent back to the people who took part in the meetings to check that it was an accurate representation of what they wanted to say about services. This then formed the basis for two Engagement Reports that have been submitted to the Trust Board, and have helped shape the service plans.

We are now considering moving the Adolescent Unit from Thorneywood and doubling the bed capacity, adding a young person's Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), moving CAMHS Outpatients and moving the Mother and Baby Unit, all to the site off Mansfield Road, currently known as The Cedars Rehab Unit, Foster Drive.

From 15 June we will be asking people for their views on these proposals.

The conversations with people who use and have used these services will continue as we start to co-design the buildings. The future planning of the CAMHS Outpatients, the Adolescent Unit and the Mother & Baby Unit is to be guided by the people that have used them.
