Health and social care research funding

There are several funding streams available and you should choose the most appropriate. It’s important to look at the respective funder’s bid guidance to check that your project will be in scope. 

 
Research Design Service (RDS) East Midlands can provide advice on developing your funding application. This includes advice on potential funders, access to specialist methodologists to discuss design choices, interview preparation for fellowships and other personal awards, and seminar and workshops to promote NIHR funding opportunities.
 

UK Government funding

National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)
The Department of Health and Social Care fund the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The NIHR provide a range of different research programmes which fund different types of research.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) brings together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England. The Research Councils include:
 

Charities

Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) 
The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) brings together and supports health and medical charities to produce high-quality research. The AMRC have over 150 member charities that fund all stages of research - from basic science projects to clinical trials. The AMRC directory is a useful resource for finding charity funding.
 
The Wellcome Trust 
Wellcome is an independent charitable foundation offering a range of funding awards. Wellcome provide guidance on how to write a Wellcome grant application.
 
The Nuffield Foundation
The Nuffield Foundation award funding grants to research that examines the inequalities, disadvantages and vulnerabilities people face throughout their lives, and produces findings that can influence future policy.
