Our Research hero

Our Research

Our ambition is to establish a portfolio of research that reflects the breadth of services provided by the Trust. The majority of our research studies are on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio; we also support studies not on this portfolio. We support both commercial and non-commercial research.

Find out more about our current research portfolio under the Projects and studies dropdown menu.

East Midlands Evidence Repository

Wherever possible we publish all outputs from research through the East Midlands Evidence Repository (EMER).

EMER is intended to make NHS research more visible and discoverable by capturing, storing and preserving the East Midlands research output and making it available to the research community through open access protocols.

Wherever possible, full-text content is provided for all research publications in the repository. Content grows daily as new collections are added.

Performance in initiating and delivering clinical research

The Government wishes to see a dramatic and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in initiating and delivering clinical research. The aim is to increase the number of patients who have the opportunity to participate in research and to enhance the nation's attractiveness as a host for research. We have been asked by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) to publish all information regarding clinical trials on a quarterly basis to improve our performance and transparency within the Trust. Our most recent reports are available to read here.

For performance in initiating clinical research, we are required to publish:

  • The name of the trial
  • The REC number
  • The date of receipt of a Valid Research Application
  • The date of the recruitment of the first patient (if available)
  • If not, the reason for not meeting that benchmark

For performance in delivering clinical research, we are required to publish:

  • The name of the trial
  • The REC number
  • The target number of patients
  • The date by which it has agreed to recruit the target number of patients
  • The trial status
  • If the trial is finished, whether or not the agreed target number of patients were recruited
