Cognitive Behavioural therapy for Psychosis (CBTp)
CBT for psychosis can help individuals understand their experiences and why they might become distressed by them. The therapy aims to reduce distress and help people achieve meaningful goals, like returning to work or education or reducing anxiety.
The service is available to those under the EIP team, with an assessment to determine if CBT is suitable at that time. Therapy sessions involve understanding current difficulties, setting goals for therapy, and exploring the relationship between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and responses.
CBT can help with difficulties like voices, anxiety, paranoia, depression, and trauma. Its benefits include reducing distress, anxiety, and depression, and teaching skills that can be used after therapy to manage future worries or early signs of psychosis.
