Our perinatal services for mothers and their babies are based at Green Haven, part of Hopewood.
This includes our Margaret Oates Mother and Baby Unit providing inpatient perinatal services, and our community perinatal services.
We provide treatment and support to women experiencing problems with mental illness from 13 weeks pregnant until their baby is one year old.
You can find more information about our inpatient and community services in the menu on the left.
Perinatal Community Services provide treatment and support to women experiencing problems with mental illness throughout the perinatal period, from 13 weeks pregnant (once the pregnancy is confirmed) up to one year after having their baby, across Nottinghamshire and Bassetlaw.
Women and/or their families who have concerns regarding the woman's mental health should consult their GP, midwife, health visitor or other health professional. They can advise whether we are the most appropriate service to help and if so, make a referral.
We don't offer appointments to all women referred as we may feel a different service would be better for them.
We are based in Green Haven at Hopewood. Although we offer many appointments here, clinics are offered at clinics across the County and follow-up appointments, unless they are with a doctor or the psychologist, are more likely to be in your home.
Our team includes medics, psychiatric nurses, a mother infant therapist, nursery nurses, a psychologist, peer support workers and an occupational therapist.
I can’t really put into words how much you have helped and supported me
Our team offers a range of support for patients. This includes:
Most of the support we offer is one to one but we also hold a Mindfulness Group at different community centres around the County with childcare provided.
When patients are referred to the service they have an initial assessment appointment with either a medic or perinatal community psychiatric nurses. From this assessment, a care plan will be developed with the patient.
Although we are able to work with a woman until her baby is 1, we will regularly review the progress in treatment and women may be discharged before this if they are well enough.
Sometimes, women do not fully recover during the perinatal period. In this case, we will discuss with the mother whether she would like to be referred on to adult mental health services or consider other options. The wishes of the mother are very important to us.
You made a real difference to me and my family
