Family's generous £1,000 donation supports Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team
A Nottinghamshire family whose son has been cared for at home by Nottinghamshire Healthcare's Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team has donated £1,000 to help other children receive the same specialist care that has supported them for many years.
Yusef, who has a complex neurological condition, has been supported by the Trust's Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team for several years. The specialist team works with children and young people with complex neurodisabilities and respiratory conditions, delivering expert care in their homes to help improve their breathing, support airway clearance, reduce the risk of chest infections and, wherever possible, prevent avoidable hospital admissions.
By providing care closer to home, the team helps children remain in familiar surroundings with their families, improving comfort, reducing disruption and enabling them to live as full a life as possible.
The generous donation will be used to purchase equipment and resources that will directly benefit children and young people receiving care from the service.
The family have been long-standing supporters of NHS services and have previously donated equipment and resources to teams involved in Yusef's care. Their latest gift reflects their appreciation for the compassionate support they have received over many years and their wish to help other families who rely on specialist community services.
The donation will fund equipment including therapeutic vest wraps, digital thermometers and blood glucose monitors, helping clinicians assess and monitor children more effectively during home visits and deliver treatment as comfortably as possible. The family have also donated professional books to support the team's ongoing learning and development.
Yusef’s mum, Shameem, Said, “Yusef has been in Moira and her team’s care since he was three years old. They have been amazing and have always done their very best for Yusef.
“They have always been reliable, on time and always at the end of the phone when we have needed them. One of the reasons Yusef has stayed away from hospital for so many years is because the Rapid Response Team see when Yusef needs help, have taken samples, got the results to me as soon as possible and started medication and treatment straight away.
“They are an important part of Yusef’s life and we are very grateful for everything they do. This donation is just a small thank you.”
Becky Sutton, Chief Operating Officer at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Yusef and his family for this thoughtful and generous donation. It is a wonderful act of kindness that reflects not only their appreciation for the care they have received over many years, but also their desire to help other children and families facing similar challenges.
"Our Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team provides highly specialist care where it matters most - in children's homes, surrounded by the people and places they know and love. By supporting children with complex respiratory needs in the community, we can often help avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and enable families to spend more precious time together at home.
"This donation will help our teams continue delivering compassionate, high-quality care by providing equipment and resources that will benefit many children and young people for years to come. On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I would like to thank Yusef and his family for their remarkable generosity and ongoing support."
Moira Flanigan, Clinical Lead of the Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team said: "We are incredibly grateful to Yusef and his family for their generosity and kindness. Their donation will make a genuine difference to the children and families we support every day.
"The equipment will help us monitor children more effectively and deliver treatment as comfortably as possible in their own homes, while the books will support our ongoing learning and development so we can continue providing the highest standard of care."
The Children's Community Respiratory Physiotherapy Team provides specialist respiratory assessment and treatment for children and young people with complex health needs across Nottinghamshire. Working alongside families in their own homes, the team supports children to manage their respiratory health, helping to prevent avoidable hospital admissions and enabling them to remain safely at home whenever possible.
The Trust would like to thank Yusef and his family for their extraordinary generosity and continued support, which will help make a lasting difference to many other local children and families.
